Job Summary/Basic Function:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Determine Texas Success Initiative obligation based on STAAR, THEA, Accuplacer, or other approved test by interpreting test scores.
  • Evaluate of unofficial transcripts for transferability of coursework.
  • Assist students with admission/registration processes and with other processes related to academic issues. Act as an advocate for students and assist with financial aid application and processes.
  • Conduct orientations and workshops throughout the academic year.
  • Host group advising as directed.
  • Provide degree path/plans with students to develop appropriate course sequence for STEM degrees.
  • Develop close, supportive, and trusting relationships with students while following the Lee College privacy policy regarding sharing of student information.
  • Provide one-on-one brief counseling and support as needed and appropriate for students.
  • Identify and leverage existing community resources for students that may hinder their success including: housing, conflict resolution, family and childcare, clothing, food and nutrition, utilities, domestic violence, health, legal, and counseling.
  • Grow and build new organizational relationships with community organizations, social service agencies, and schools within the Lee College service area around mental health, health access, affordable housing, parenting and family planning so that they are available to students as needed.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining transfer partnerships and articulation agreements with four-year institutions.
  • Participate in evening and weekend special events and activities.
  • Ensure confidentiality of participant records.
  • Maintain the office area in a fashion which exhibits a professional atmosphere.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in professional activities, committees, and training as required.
  • Travel out of town to attend conferences, trainings, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Excellent benefits accrue with this full-time position. This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is based on the continuation of the grant and satisfactory job performance. This is a security sensitive position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One (1) years of related work experience in a higher education environment in any of the following areas: classroom instruction, student success/advising/counseling and/or grants
  • Must be proficient in composition, spelling, and proofreading
  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and energetic, and demonstrate exceptional customer service abilities
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends
  • Must be dependable and demonstrate initiative
  • Exceptional computer skills including expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with superb skills in oral and written communication, planning, and organization
  • Solid organizational, time management and filing skills
  • Detail orientated, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, plus meet deadlines
  • Flexible, organized, and creative with the ability to switch gears and move from one task to another with frequent interruptions (e.g., a busy phone, constant office visitors, etc.)
  • Creativity to produce publications and PowerPoint presentations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • PeopleSoft experience
  • Bilingual: able to read, write and speak English and Spanish
